Photograph Restoration

I also offer an image restoration service, for pictures that have faded, or been damaged, bringing new life to old cherished photographs. I can clone out cracks and damage to the photograph and restore faded colour. The images can then be reprinted.

Simply scan and email, send or bring the photograph to me. I work with the digital image, leaving the original photograph unaffected. A proof can be provided for inspection, prior to payment. Images are supplied on a CD as standard .jpeg files. Then simply take the disk to photo outlets such as Boots or Kodak or print them at home if you have a good quality photo printer. You can also enlarge the prints and take the images directly from the CD.

Example

In the example below, the original photograph was over 80 years old and was very washed out and faded. In places the photo had many small patches of the surface which had rotted through and the edges of the photo were very tatty and worn.

I was able to clone and digitally airbrush out the holes, fading and scratches. The person standing in the centre had too much damage to his face to restore his features. The best solution was to use clone and airbrush tools to copy in some of the surrounding detail, in order to make a new background, as can be seen below:
